The Hand, by Jiri Trnka
( This 1080p version has slightly different duration with my pictogram. )
The Hand made by Czech animator Jiri Trnka in 1965. In that cold war background, every regime brandished their claws to extend their desires. Jiri Trnka used this animation to explain a person how to be a slave under totalitarianism.
Based on the plot, I made an illustration-based pictogram to record the hand was gradually being bigger and closer towards the protagonist – the artisan in the center for manipulating him.
Printout version exhibited at Floating Projects in Hong Kong.

Further Information
As an art-worker, Jiri Trnka knew that a totalitarian regime was a disaster for creating. I deem the protagonist of The Hand is Jiri Trnka himself, this animation is his self-portrait. After that animation released in 1965, Prague Spring happened in 1968, Soviet Union army occupied Czech nation.
After 57 years, those totalitarian regimes are mature again, they desire to devour democracy, freedom and every universal value as their nutrition to grow stronger. People should be aware and try to do something when we still have chances. Hope the world can be safe, good luck everyone.
